Escola Profissional Amar Terra Verde
Escola Profissional Amar Terra Verde (EPATV) is a VET school, a training provider and adult education centre, where social and educational activities take part both in formal, non-formal and in informal contexts. The vocational school was created in 1993 from a tripartite agreement between 3 town halls: Amares, Terras do Bouro e Vila Verde. Nowadays, it is a private institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. The vocational school has around 800 students and 90 teachers and it is located in Vila Verde, a rural area in the north of Portugal, strongly low qualified and whose population struggles with social and economic problems, mainly due to unemployment, low formal qualifications, and life conditions. Participation in Lifelong learning activities is also more difficult due to the fact that public transports are rare to the city center, mainly after the usual daily working and/or studying hours. A high percentage of the population still works in agriculture related professions. The main role of the vocational school is to prepare the youngsters for life, not only for
the labor market but to succeed in all contexts and to, by consequence, improve their life conditions and well-being. The courses we offer every year may differ, however, the school is specialized in Catering/ Gastronomy, Healthcare Assistant, Metalwork/ Welding, Renewable energies, Electricity and Mechanics, Air Conditioning and Industrial Maintenance courses due to the success of these areas in terms of employability. The school also develops for long time volunteering activities, and an Eco-school project, which involves everyone in the community and keeps us motivated and with a
positive attitude towards the environment and its sustainability. Other non- formal activities, like dance, theatre and street art are also encouraged, both for young people and for the adult population. To promote social inclusion, active citizenship, employment or self-employment, to prevent early school dropout, gender equality are key messages that we pass in our daily routines. We’ve had several projects under these topics, from Leonardo da Vinci, to Comenius and now Erasmus +. We are in Eco-School for some years now and we’re motivated towards an environment friendly attitude.
EPATV is a member of the European Association for the Education of Adults, the voice of non-formal adult learning in Europe. We’re also members of APCEP – Portuguese Association for Lifelong Learning and ANESPO – National Association for Vocational Schools. At a local level, EPATV has a strong relation with the community, with all civil society actors. At a national level, works closely with the Ministries of Education and Labour and with the High Commission for Migration. All these actors will support the work and explore and disseminate the results.

University of Nicosia
The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the largest university in Cyprus, and the largest university in Southern Europe that teaches primarily in English, with over 12,500 students from 70 countries across the globe, coming together in an innovative and transformative learning space. UNIC is a comprehensive university with over 100 conventional on-campus and online programmes of study, and particular strengths in medicine, health sciences, education sciences, blockchain, computer science, law, accounting, architecture, and international relations. UNIC has been instrumental in the internationalization of higher education in Cyprus and the wider region. It founded and operates the first and largest medical school in Cyprus, in collaboration with St George’s, University of London, the only university in the UK dedicated to medicine, healthcare and science. UNIC also offers a series of innovative joint degrees with other leading universities in Europe. We offer a multitude of innovative distance learning programmes at Bachelor and Master level, and use the most up-to-date technologies and state-of-the-art learning design theory to deliver our courses. An integral part of our approach to the learning design of these courses is our commitment to help our students develop higher-order skills of critical analysis, reflection, and problem-solving. We also support our learners in building knowledge collaboratively and engaging in social learning. As a testament to the quality of our online programmes, our University has been awarded the highest accolades for e-learning and distance learning education excellence. Functioning in a knowledge and information society, the School of Education sets the path for a “new” education so that the graduates of the programme will be ready to effectively confront the challenges of the 21st century. The faculty’s concern is the implementation of flexible and scientifically formed programmes of study. These programmes are taught by specialized personnel and they enable students to respond effectively to the needs of the globalized society and the complex reality we experience today. A UNESCO chair has been established in the School of Education entitled “Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace”. The Chair is a step towards culture and peace for Cyprus and it guarantees a democratic education and high quality without stereotypes and social prejudices. What is special of the School of Education is the quality of graduate education at both the Masters and Doctoral level. Three variables define this quality. Firstly, the faculty who teach graduate courses come from Cyprus and Greece and are well-known authorities in the areas of their specialization. Secondly, students who are admitted in the programme enjoy high academic standing in their undergraduate study. Thirdly, the University provides students rich library resources, suitably designed seminar space, and teaching rooms equipped with modern educational technology. Through the programme, students acquire, on the one hand, deep knowledge in the area of their specialization and, on the other hand, research skills and competencies. As a result, the graduates of the programme manage to be appointed to high-level positions in the educational system, in tertiary education and in research centers as well as function as agents of new ideas in education and catalysts of innovation in education.
